After enjoying almost a week of relaxing walks along the beach, swimming, reading and just relaxing we decided it was time to go and fish. Rods, seats, sunscreen and hooks were all at the ready. The lake was looking beautiful - blue, clean and inviting. Surely the flathead would be biting today! We arrive an hour before the tide turns to one local already seated and casting away. Then come the rest of them - we are ready to take them on and pull in a big catch!
We cast and reel, cast and reel. Reel slowly, slowly bringing in our special magical flathead jelly hooks that have previously attracted a few flatheads here in the same lake. The locals are talking, lots of fish have been caught lately and there are plenty of schools of fish that have been swimming by in recent days.
We cast and reel, cast and reel. Yes we hear I've got something......... he local has pulled in a toad fish! Ok concentrate, cast and reel in, slowly, slowly, yes I feel something. Reel in a bit faster, yes it feels heavy........... no its just 'weed fish'! Yip the day was only full of us reeling in weed and more weed and more weed! It was however a good way to full in a couple of hours.
We love this part of the world. Trent has swam in the lake previously as do the locals. It is a great place to come and kayak or bring your tinny. Many people go up into the arms and fish but as learnt there is always a story about the one that got away!
