Ok firstly let me saying being kiwi I have seen my fair share of 'Alpine Ways' but the Australian Alpine Way is beautiful. Yes people I did say beautiful! We left Bemm River and headed to Omeo - a small mining town at the start of the Alpine Way. We were headed to Bright and there are two ways to get there - Mt Hotham or Falls Creek. We decided on Falls Creek.

We first ventured into Omeo Valley and checked out a free camp on the Mitta Mitta river - stunning location and great camping spot for another day!!

We followed the twisting, winding road of the Alpine Way heading towards Mitta Mitta, taking the turn towards Falls Creek. We subsequently found out this road had only just been opened because of the snow!! Did I say snow - yes snow!!

This road is gorgeous. Lots of stunning campsites within the National Park - we couldn't stay because of Georgia puppy but if we were able to just pitch up on the river for a few days we would have done so! The changes in the scenery and also tree lines and sites was spectacular. While the trip itself was slow, it was a nice slow - able to take everything in and absorb what there is to offer within the Alpine region of Australia. Some amazing walking tracks were spotted as well as some great cattle country. Lots of alpine flowers were spotted along the way.

This road really was not disappointing and we were glad that we made the decision to follow this stretch of road - one that should be explored more time and puppy permitting! We did also venture to Hotham for a quick day trip. We were hoping to get to Dargo but the road had been closed so we continued on to Hotham. Is was freezing - 9 degrees in spring is not my idea of fun!!
