Our adventure to Tassie has just begun. We left family in the Yarra Valley and headed into and through the city - camper in tow along tram lines. Interesting journey to say the least past Flinders St station!
We arrived at the Spirit if Tasmania terminal just as the gates opened. First a check in the car fridge and then into the camper by quarantine- honey, seafood, flowers and fresh fruit and veg can not be taken off the mainland to Tassie.
Georgia was also checked to ensure she had been wormed (Hydatid worms) - must be done 14 days prior to departure.
From here it was into the line to board. Once onboard, Georgia was put into her kennel and we settled into our paid recliner seats (yes they were ok to sleep in and worth the $30 each). Pillow and blanket were also provided! A cheeky beer at the bar and some Kwells for the stomach churn and we were set! 7pm and we were setting sail.
Was relatively smooth sailing out Port Phillip Bay but once we were in the Bass Strait it was a different story! There was some chop and plenty of rock! Whilst we did sleep through most of it you did feel it.
Arriving into Devonport at sunrise was great - really smooth sail into dock. It does take a while to get all the ship roped up but once the call comes to get into cars by deck number it is all go. We were first on and then first off. We left the ship around 6:45am.
Great way to travel. Yes it isn’t cheap but we are hoping 2 months down here and the money will have been well spent. We are in Devonport for the next 2 days and have already found a nice walk along the beach front!
I should also mention we had only been here 30 minutes and managed to score some freebies!
