Day trip Tasman National Park and Surrounds

Having been to the Historic Port Arthur site some years ago (a real must see place for a full day as it is pretty impressive), we decided we wanted to explore the surrounding area so hit the road dropping into as many places as we could.

Following the coastline through Lewisham, Dodges Ferry, Park beach and Carlton heading towards Dunalley - a small town taken out by bush fires a few years ago - the locals all ran for the beach and watched the glow of the fires from there as they had no way out. The bush is slowly regenerating but you can still see where the fires have been. The beaches along this coastline were nice, but the best was yet to come!

We dropped into Sommers Beach - a recommendation from a lady who had looked after Georgia. White sand and crystal clear aqua waters - stunning. Further on we took a turnoff leading to the Tasman Lookout. Wow this was a breathtaking view. The shear cliffs that drop into the ocean and a small bay were the back drop.

Below the lookout were the Tessellated Pavement - natural build up of mud on the sandstone rocks, then eroded away making it look like it was laid by human hands . The Bay we were standing in was beautiful and the water was warmer than expected. The rock formations we could see in the distance were hiding Tasmans Arch, Devils Kitchen and the Blowhole! Tasmans Arch is a true wonder - how on earth was this created?
