Stanley is a quaint little town perched almost in a cove - ocean on two sides of the town and has ‘The Nut’ - a volcanic plug - to watch over it.
First people came here in 1827 with the town being established in 1842. It was once a thriving port. The town today is one many tourists come to visit.
The Nut has a steep 400 meter track to climb to the top - a Plateau which is flat and has a 1.2km walk around the top with a history of the area. Of course if you are challenged with the walk up or down, there is also the chairlift!
On the northern side of Stanley township near the cemetery is the home of the fairy Penguins. They normally arrive at 9:30pmish in the evening and many people take the opportunity to see them up close and personal. We were lucky enough to see chicks. Remember a red light us best if you wish to see them - no bright lights.
I love this place for its restoration of the houses throughout the town and eating the Main Street.
This town is quiet and perfect for all ages and puppy friendly! The beaches are Devine but if there is wind at one beach, it’s only a short stroll to the other!
