Carpenter Rocks and Coonawarra 🍷

After spending a very very windy night (80km winds) we left Port MacDonnell and headed 30 odd kilometers up the road to Carpenter Rocks. This place has a massive grassed area with a donation per night stayed.
This is a very small fishing village with a lighthouse and National Park on its doorstep. Very quiet town right on the water.

We decided on 2 nights here as we wanted to head up to the Coonawarra. It is about an hour and a quarter up to wine country! Stopping in at Penula (home of Mary MacKillop) for some information we decided to check out the historic Petticott St dating back to the mid 1800’s. This is a cute wee town with lots of history.

Just outside town is the wineries. Each one runs into the next making it easy to visit. We stopped into Wynns for a cheeky glass of wine each and a cheese platter - wine tasting here was great! Then to Katnook and finally Leconfield.
The Coonawarra region is typicall Cabernet wines but Shiraz, Merlot and Reisling can also be found. The wineries here date back into the 1890’s so they are well established!
