Carmila and Haliday Bay

Leaving Rockhampton we continued north to a small low cost camp on the water - Carmila Beach. $10 per night here with flushing toilets and there was a dump point close by. It is all sand here and of course croc country!! We had prime position to view the water when the tide was in, when the tide was out that was a completely different story!!

We took in a beautiful sunrise here on my birthday, followed by a walk along the beach (eyes and ears pricked up in case there was a croc jump out of the water or come at us along the beach), but we were lucky enough to have spotted a number of turtles frolicking close into the shore. It was truly amazing and a sight we will treasure. There is not much at Carmila beach but we did venture for a meal at the pub - pretty basic but it was ok.

We also decided on a day trip, up towards Serena and also out towards the coast. We came across a salt mine accidentally and not much else apart from mud flats!!

Leaving Carmila, we continued north, stopping into Sarina for supplies and then on to Haliday Bay. This spot is gorgeous. Crystal clear waters, nice beach and whilst the golf course camp is expensive, it is quiet here - $22 per night and only with a toilet at the club house. There is a restaurant at the club house but only open weekends. Golf was $10 per round if you were staying. We were joined in Haliday Bay by Trent's mum and dad - Des and Kath and had a small celebration of our engagement with them on our first night together - beautiful roast beef and bubbles!

There is a beautiful walk to the top of the hill which Trent and his dad Des did one afternoon taking in the view out to Cape Hillsborough National Park. From the beach you can also see a number of small islands as well. There is a small swimming enclosure down on the beach as stingers (jelly fish) and also crocs can be spotted here. This place is one to keep on our list of returning to as they were talking of making improvements to water and power availability.
