We arrived into Mission Beach and were greeted by the endangered Cassowary! These birds are very dangerous if you get too close, ripping and kicking with their feet. They have been known to kill animals especially dogs when they get too close to their chicks.
Mission Beach is a small town on the beach. It along with the town of Tully were hit by a devastating cyclone a few years ago. It is a very sleep Collister with a few cafes and of course a pub. Woolworths is a short drive away.
We stayed in the council park right on the beach. Was $21 per night unpowered. Was pretty full but tge people were all friendly and mostly there for the winter. Water, toilets and showers are all available too. The beach is beautiful although stingers and crocs can be seen here.
Mission Beach overlooks Dunk Island and if you are lucky you will spot parachutes landing on the beach during the day. This area is the start of the World Heritage Rain Forest to Ocean Area. It is very green here and we also experienced the tropical north rain!
We loved this place and will certainly make an effort to comeback.
